Brandon Figueroa all over Chacon to retain
The main event on FS1 Saturday night from Bert Ogden Arena in Edinburg, Texas saw WBA Super Bantamweight interim champion Brandon Figueroa remain undefeated in front of his hometown crowd against Javier Chacon.
Figueroa (20-0, 15 KOs) was just too active and too much for Chacon (29-5-1, 9 KOs) who was stopped in this contest in 1:11 of the fourth round. Figueroa ended this one-sided affair when he was stunned Chacon with a flurry of shots that ended with a left. Chacon when trying to beat the ten count, fell back down and referee Rafael Ramos signaled this contest over.

“It was one of the best moments of my life-fighting in front of my family and supporters who have been with me since I was seven years old,” said Figueroa. “I want to do this again and again, over and over. These are my people, and it feels amazing.”
The only heart ‘The Heartbreaker’ hurt in this contest was the one from Chacon. From the opening bell, this was one-way traffic as Chacon wasn’t throwing for a majority of this contest if at all and was constantly pressured and up against the ropes against Figueroa. The final punch total reflected this as Figueroa landed 96 shots compared to only 18 from Chacon.
“He wasn’t throwing punches so I had to get in there and rough him up,” said Figueroa. “He didn’t want to fight my game so I had to punish him, and I caught him with a good right hook.”
After the fight, Figueroa was joined in the ring by fellow unbeaten super bantamweight Stephen “Cool Boy Steph” Fulton, who won on the card earlier against Issac Avelar about a possible matchup against Figueroa.
“I’m more than happy to do it,” said Figueroa. “I can switch up my game and do everything at any time. I don’t think he’s seen a hard-hitter like me.”
“We’ve been ready, we’re always ready, and we will be ready for anybody,” said Fulton. “I want all of the title holders. If I have to go through Brandon Figueroa to do that, I’ll be ready.
He hasn’t fought anybody like me. I think this would be easy for me.”
Figueroa-Fulton will be a fun matchup if it comes to fruition. For those in attendance last night to see Figueroa shine in his homecoming, he did just that.
