On November 18, Adam Azim (10-0, 7 KOs) Defeated Franck Petitjean (24-7-3, 6 KOs) at The Halls in Wolverhampton – via an impressive tenth-round TKO. The Slough-born fighter came into this EBU European super lightweight Championship fight on the back of gaining valuable experience in his unanimous decision wins over Aram Faniian and Santos Reyes. Recap of Azim vs. Petitjean
Azim started fast and established himself impressively, peppering Petitjean with combinations. He stayed out of trouble effectively and steadily let his hands go as the fight progressed, which resulted in Azim dropping the French fighter in the fifth round. His dominance continued throughout the contest – which eventually wore the Frenchman down and saw the fight stopped in the tenth round. After the fight his trainer Shane McGuigan reflected on the win and said: “He is only scratching the surface of what he is really capable of.”
Enock Poulsen
Enock Poulsen (14-0, 5 KOs) made it clear straight after Azim’s win that he wants his European super lightweight belt back. Poulsen previously defeated Petitjean via unanimous decision on April 21, 2022, but later vacated the title due to illness, which now leaves him as the mandatory to take on the Slough-born fighter – and he’s made it clear he wants the fight: “This title is mine and right now he’s only borrowing it,” Poulsen told Sky Sports. “I will take it back and I will beat Azim in his own hometown.”
Poulsen seems the most likely opponent for Azim next, and he will provide a stern test for “The Assassin.” He is a very adaptable fighter and slick with how he picks his punches well. The Danish fighter is tough, but he hasn’t encountered an opponent with the speed and accuracy of Azim.

Before the win against Petitjean, Promotor Ben Shalom spoke about what the future could hold for Azim: “Adam can follow in footsteps of British greats Naseem Hamed and Amir Khan and become a global superstar,” Shalom told Sky Sports.
Shalom continued: “In the next 12 months, we will be targeting the top names in the division – Keyshawn Davis, Ryan Garcia, Gervonta Davis, Teofimo Lopez – all these huge fights are close to becoming a reality.”
Azim is rapidly moving through the levels, and after winning the European title, it appears there is no chance of slowing down for this prodigious talent.
