Tyson Fury in 2025: Looking at Options for ‘The Gypsy King’

On January 13, 2025, former lineal/unified heavyweight champion Tyson Fury announced his retirement from professional boxing via a video posted on his Instagram page.

“The Gypsy King” has announced his retirement in the past and has ultimately returned to the ring, with many people taking Fury’s video with ‘a pinch of salt.’ Speculation has been rife about whether Fury could be tempted back to the ring in 2025, with fans and bettors—especially those on Bitcoin online casino platforms—eager to see if he fights again. Could he return this year?

Could Tyson Fury Finally Face Anthony Joshua?

Fury’s latest retirement came a mere three weeks after suffering his second straight defeat against the undefeated Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk. The Ukrainian also memorably defeated Fury on May 18, 2024, to be crowned the undisputed champion.

During Fury’s social media announcement, he said: “Hi everybody. I’m gonna make this short and sweet,” Fury said while sitting behind the wheel of a parked car. “I’d like to announce my retirement from boxing. It’s been a blast. I’ve loved every single minute of it. And I’m gonna end with this — Dick Turpin wore a mask. God bless everybody. See you on the other side. Get up!”

Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua

When people talk about Tyson Fury potentially returning, one glaringly obvious option is the long-talked-about fight against Anthony Joshua. Despite both fighters losing their previous bouts and no titles on the line, this would still be a massive event, particularly for British boxing. It feels like it has to happen, or both fighters might look back with regret. A summer showdown at Wembley Stadium in 2025 would be a monumental occasion for Britain and the global boxing community. This fight would surely involve Riyadh Season ensuring an impressive undercard.

Time will tell if Fury will stay retired, but Queensberry promoter Frank Warren recently said: “God bless him. If that’s what he wants to do, that’s what he should do,” Warren told TNT Sports. “I’ve said it all along: No one should be trying to influence him in the boxing world, what he should do. It’s up to him at the end of the day, after consulting his family and making discussions. He’s made a lot of money. He’s had a fantastic career. He’s the best British heavyweight, probably joint best of his division, worst case, of this century.”

“He’s been in some magnificent fights. He’s shown what he’s been about. He’s been exciting to be around him. I’ve loved every minute of it and I hope all the fans have as well. (He should) go and enjoy himself.

“And I hope he doesn’t leave boxing. I’d like him to come and work in boxing. He’s been brilliant for British and world boxing, and I wish him a lovely retirement and to enjoy his life.”

It would take a massive offer to tempt Fury out of retirement, and a fight against Joshua would present a huge financial opportunity for both fighters. Aside from a potential AJ matchup, if Daniel Dubois were to beat Joseph Parker and then pull off an upset against Oleksandr Usyk, could he face Fury for Undisputed glory? This, however, seems more likely for 2026.
