Five Super Bantamweight Fighters to Watch in 2025

The super bantamweight division has hosted many talented fighters, including Wilfredo Gómez, Marco Antonio Barrera and Erik Morales. The division is currently ruled by undisputed champion Naoya Inoue. Here are five fighters from the division to watch out for in the next 12 months and beyond.

Super Bantamweight Boxing: Top Fighters to Watch in 2025

Super Bantamweight Boxing: Peter McGrail

Peter McGrail (11-1, 6 KOs) enjoyed a successful amateur career before turning professional and racing to an 8-0 record before a devastating KO against Ja’Rico O’Quinn when in complete control of that fight. The Liverpudlian has bounced back since then, winning three fights, including a tough victory against Rhys Edwards last time out. The 28-year-old southpaw is light on his feet, and moves extremely well, picking his shots, making him an elusive target. 2025 looks set to be a big year for the Everton Red Triangle fighter.

Carl Jammes Martin

The undefeated Filipino fighter Carl Jammes Martin (25-0, 20 KOs) is the next one on our list and somewhat of an unknown quantity, despite making it to number two in the WBO rankings. “Wonder Boy” has shown impressive precision with his work and has showcased his power, with four stoppage wins in his last five fights. A step up in competition and more opportunities look a certainty for Martin in 2025.

Mukhammad Shekhov

Undefeated Uzek southpaw Mukhammad Shekhov (15-0-1, 4 KOs) has displayed a clear ability to progress in the super bantamweight division. He fought to a draw with Magomed Kurbanov early on in his career. The Uzbek fighter is light on his feet and picks his punches well. He likes to stay on the front foot and dictate the tempo.

Subaru Murata

Subaru Murata (8-0, 8 KOs) is a hard-hitting Japanese southpaw who looks ready for a big 2025. The 28-year-old moves his feet well and mixes his punches impressively. His power is striking and has seen him win all his fights by stoppage. He uses the right hand as more of a range finder, before letting his lethal left hand do the damage.

Francesca Hennessy

Fran Hennessy (5-0, 1 KO) enjoyed an impressive 2024, winning three times, including a win over previously undefeated Ana Karla Vaz De Moraes to win the WBA inter-continental title. Hennessy is trained by former British and Commonwealth champion Bradley Skeete. She clearly has a bright future – with her slick boxing skills. She moves her feet well, and boxes impressively off the back foot. Hennessy is sometimes guilty of planting her feet and trading too much, but her career is headed in the right direction for 2025.
