Tyson Fury Opens Up on Retirement Before Oleksandr Usyk Rematch

On December 21, Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs) will once again face Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) in a rematch at the Kingdom Arena, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for the WBA, WBC and WBO heavyweight titles.

There has been speculation on Fury’s weight and if he can turn the tables on his Ukrainian foe, but ahead of this mammoth clash on Dec. 21, “The Gypsy King” has spoken honestly on DAZN’s The Ariel x Ade Show about retirement.

Fury Admits Struggle to Leave Boxing Behind

When speaking to Ade Oladipo, Fury was asked about retirement and if he ever thinks about it. “The Gypsy King” said: “I’ve tried to walk away many times and been unsuccessful. I meant it when I retired after Dillian Whyte back in 2022. I really meant that wholeheartedly. I could have put my hands on a bible and meant it. But it was difficult to let it go.”

He added almost as if it was to say ‘What else is there’: “So I’m not sure if I can ever let it go.”

It’s difficult to decipher many of Fury’s interviews as they depend heavily on his state of mind, but hearing him talk about retirement, it appears that for him to walk away, he needs to feel fulfilled. Surely, beating Usyk in their rematch will go a long way towards that.
