Triller Won Purse Bid for Teofimo Lopez-George Kambosos
In a shocking financial development on Thursday afternoon, the Triller app won the right to promote the proposed upcoming Undisputed Lightweight World Title fight between newly crowned Teofimo Lopez and #1 ranked IBF challenger, George Kambosos.
Boxing Insider Dan Rafael confirmed through the virtual bid process from the International Boxing Federation headquarters in New Jersey, that Triller had secured the rights with a whopping $6+ million bid,

It was later confirmed that Matchroom Boxing ($3.5 million) and Top Rank Boxing, Lopez’s promoter, ($2.3 million) were the other bidders and both were blown away by the Triller offer
The IBF ordered Lopez to defend against their top challenger, the Australian Kambosos, back in early January. This after the unbeaten, New York star Lopez scored an impressive decision win on October 17th over Vasiiy Lomachenko in Las Vegas pushing his career record to 16 – 0, 12 KOs. And, it made him the man to beat at 135 lb. with all the major titles.
As for Kambosos, he was last in action on Halloween winning a hard-fought, split-decision over Britain’s Lee Selby. That made the Australian 19 – 0 with 10 KOs.
Top Rank’s Bob Arum had reportedly balked at Lopez’s demands to be paid more than the reportedly $1.25 million that they offered to the new champ to fight Kambosos before it went to the “blind bid” process that unfolded Thursday.
Well, now that Triller has apparently come up with roughly triple of what Top Rank would have paid the fighters, it looks like Lopez was smart to hold out for more.
Triller is a new brand on the boxing scene and digital space that debuted with the Mike Tyson-Roy Jones “legends exhibition” fight card in late November. Tyson and Jones were given a draw, but the real story was the reported 1 million PPV buys that Triller obtained for a massive financial windfall.
It’s not clear on the time-line on when Lopez and Kambosos would fight? But, it’s believed that it could happen as soon as April/May and the bout could potentially take place in Honduran-born Lopez’s, second home, New York City.
Then, again, Triller held the Tyson-Jones bout in Los Angeles with no fans and may want it there, as well.
