‘You’ll Get Over It’: Promotional Option for Shakur Stevenson Ruled Out

Shakur Stevenson, whose promotional deal with Top Rank expired following his recent unanimous decision win over Artem Harutyunyan, will not be signing for Golden Boy Promotions following a social media post by their CEO Oscar De La Hoya, which received a swift response from Shakur Stevenson, who has also been linked to a deal with Matchroom Boxing.

Stevenson is seemingly looking for a better deal than the offer from Top Rank, a five-fight, minimum $15 million offer, which the Newark fighter refused. In a recent interview with Dan Rafael, Stevenson spoke about what he’s looking for in a deal: “I think big fights is mainly the thing that I’m looking for.”

De La Hoya via his X account said: “You’re a free agent, great fighter, great talent, but not for me.” He continued: “I believe that when somebody says they’re not fighting for the public, I cannot promote them.”

In response to the post from De La Hoya, Shakur responded: “He mad cause he found out I’m not signing with him. It’s OK, Oscar De La Hoya, you’ll get over it.”

Shakur Stevenson vs. William Zepeda?

Despite De La Hoya and Stevenson revealing a deal for the WBC champ to join the stable won’t be happening, the WBC have ordered Stevenson to defend his title against Mexican William Zepeda.

The WBC have set an August 20 deadline for the two sides to make a deal, or it will go to purse bids, with Stevenson receiving the lion’s share of a 70-30 split. It remains to be seen what direction Zepeda decides to go in as he is in the unique position of being ranked No. 1 by all sanctioning bodies.

In his video on X, the Golden Boy CEO said: “William will make his decision very soon and has three other options.”
