“The Golden Boy” was asked about his win over Ike Quartey by split decision to retain his WBC welterweight title on Feb 13, 1999: “I think it was one of the funnest times I’ve had in the ring. Literally, because what people don’t know is I actually got cut on my right eye about two weeks before training camp (before the fight).” He continued: “It was a bad, bad cut.” He added: “They didn’t let me spar. They didn’t let me train because the cut might reopen.”
