Mike Tyson-Jake Paul Bout Rescheduled

Just over a week after having to postpone their July fight in Texas, former undisputed heavyweight champ Mike Tyson and Youtube/social media star turned boxer Jake Paul have announced that their bout is back on for November.

Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions released a statement Friday morning confirming that a new date for Tyson-Paul as Friday night, November 15th and still at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX,

Details on the New Tyson-Paul Date

Tyson’s Medical Issues Are a Concern

As we wrote previously, Tyson had to postpone the original fight date of July 20th after suffering a medical episode during a cross country Miami to Los Angeles flight due to what his spokesperson described as an “ulcer flare up.” Tyson, who turns 58 on June 30th, required medical attention on the flight and from paramedics on the plane, once it landed.

Commenting on the re-schedule, Tyson said in the MVP statement,

“Although we had to postpone the fight, I will resume training shortly. I am thankful to the medical staff that treated me and to MVP, Netflix, and AT&T Stadium for working diligently to find the best reschedule date for all parties,” said Mike Tyson. “While we have a new date, the result will be the same no matter when we fight. Jake Paul is getting knocked out. On Friday, November 15, watch this in-person at AT&T Stadium or live on Netflix.” 

The rescheduling of the fight for November obviously encounters other scheduling issues, especially with the primary tenant of AT&T Stadium, the Dallas Cowboys of the NFL. They are not playing that Sunday, but rather on Monday night November 18th against cross-state rival, the Houston Texans.

That fight will represent Tyson’s first return to the ring since a November 2020 exhibition with Hall of Famer Roy Jones.  The former undisputed champ from 1987-90 has not had an actual boxing match, since he lost to Kevin McBride in 2005.

Special Rules for Tyson-Paul

This fight with Paul is already stipulated as an eight-round bout with 2 minute rounds, instead of three.  And, the fighters will also be wearing bigger, padded 14 oz gloves than the standard 10 oz usual gloves that heavyweights would wear. This is to protect both Tyson and Paul, to an extent, from serious punches.

Paul, who’s three decades younger than Tyson at 27, is 9-1 as a pro fighter, having won two mismatch, first round KOs in March and the previous December to pad his record. Paul lost his most significant fight, an eight round decision to England’s Tommy Fury, the half brother of former WBC heavyweight champ Tyson Fury in February 2023.
