Keyshawn Davis Eyes Berinchyk Showdown, But Thinks ‘Bigger and Bigger’
Keyshawn Davis’s (12-0, 8 KOs, 1 NC) first shot at a world title will see him challenge WBO lightweight champion Denys Berinchyk (19-0, 9 KOs).
Their bout headlines a Top Rank card, done in association with K2 Promotions and Queensberry Promotions, at The Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City, NY. Boxing fans in the United States can catch the action live on ESPN, ESPN Deportes and ESPN+. Those in the United Kingdom and Ireland can do so with Sky Sports. In Canada, it will air on TSN.
Ahead of his clash against Berinchyk, Davis spoke with Big Fight Weekend’s Dan Rafael. Below is some of what he had to say.
Keyshawn Davis Speaks With Dan Rafael
Keyshawn Davis On His Fight Against Gustavo Lemos
In November last year, Davis fought in his hometown of Norfolk, VA, and took on Gustavo Lemos, knocking the Argentinian out in just two rounds. In addition to that, his brothers Kelvin and Keon Davis also fought on that card and picked up wins. When asked whether the event lived up to his dream of sharing a card with his brothers, Davis said:
“Honestly, no, it surpassed it. Hell yeah. We always kept saying ‘it’s going to be big, it’s going to sellout.’ But what happened that weekend was huge. Like, people was raving about this fight all the way to the following weekend. Wegetting bookings now. People paying us to do walkthroughs and all types of shit. We made a lot of motherfucking money outside the ring, I’ll tell you that now. It definitely surpassed our expectations and all glory to God, man.”

Finding Out About the Chance to Fight Denys Berinchyk
Davis realized a chance to challenge Berinchyk for the WBO lightweight world title was “real” as early as fight week of his clash against Lemos.
“It was real, I could say fight week of Gustavo [Lemos]. They [Top Rank] just kept saying ‘Keyshawn, you know what’s next, right?’ I’m like ‘no, what’s next?’ [Top Rank says] you get the job done right here, you going for Berinchyk…And when they kept saying that, it was kinda making me nervous and shit. Like, duh, I’m going to get the job done. Why you gotta keep telling me that? You know what I’m saying? Other than that, I knew fight week of Gustavo. Now we here.”
On How He Feels About the Fight Against Denys Berinchyk
Davis also spoke about how he feels about his upcoming bout and provided some insight into his future.
“Honestly…as of right now, I don’t have no nervousness, no anticipation, no anxiety. Nothing like that. I’m just in training camp, training for another fight, honestly. I’m not really the type of person that gets into all the enthusiastics…I’m just taking like this is another God damn fight for me. ‘Cause I know at the end of the day, I got 10 more years ahead of me. I’m 25. I can retire when I’m 35. You know what I’m saying? So it’s going to be bigger fights than this. Starting now, I just got to make sure I stay levelheaded, stay calm, because it’s going to do nothing but get bigger and bigger after this.”
