American heavyweight Jared Anderson (16-0, 15 KOs) will headline a Top Rank Boxing card on April 13 at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas, with the fights set to be streamed on ESPN. Dan Rafael has revealed via his Fight Freaks Unite Substack that Top Rank tried to match “Big Baby” with a former opponent of Deontay Wilder and a challenger to Tyson Fury.

Opposition for Jared Anderson on April 13

Rafael revealed via his Substack that Top Rank are seemingly searching for proven opposition to take on Anderson, with no confirmed opponent at this time. According to the report, Top Rank was interested in matching Anderson with former two-time title challenger and ex-opponent of Deontay Wilder Luis Ortiz. “King Kong” brings bags of experience to any fight, but the Cuban southpaw’s demands for $2 million made this a non-starter.

Another opponent Top Rank looked at was Tom Schwarz, who is in good form, winning his five fights since his sole career loss to Tyson Fury back in 2019. The German heavyweight has experienced legal issues and is therefore unable to enter the United States and is now not under consideration to challenge Anderson.

Anderson Recent Form

“Big Baby” was named the 2021 Fight Freaks Unite prospect of the year by Rafael and enjoyed an impressive 2023, winning all three bouts, with two knockouts. He stopped the previously undefeated George Arias and destroyed Andrii Rudenko by a fifth-round TKO. Anderson also comfortably beat Charles Martin by unanimous decision.
