Before Martin Bakole vs. Jared Anderson: Ryad Merhy

On April 13, 2024, Jared Anderson faced Ryad Merhy at the American Bank Center, Corpus Christi. The opening round was cagey with both fighters feeling each other out. “The Real Big Baby” got his jab going early, while not much was coming back from his opponent.

Not much changed as the fight progressed with Merhy refusing to engage, and Anderson unable to bridge his defence. It was a difficult watch for most of the bout, with the judges scorecards reading 100-90×2 and 99-91.

Andriy Rudenko

Anderson faced Andriy Rudenko on August 26, 2023. The opening round of the fight saw “The Real Big Baby” land the cleaner work. Rudenko was having success, but the body shots from Anderson were hurting the Ukrainian fighter.

Rudenko was deducted a point in the fifth round for excessive head-locking which was a reflection of how much he was struggling to deal with Anderson. “The Real Big Baby” then stepped on the gas and soon had Rudenko in trouble, forcing the referee to stop the fight, awarding the American fighter the fifth-round TKO win.

Charles Martin

On July 1, 2023, “The Real Big Baby” faced former world champion Charles Martin at the Huntington Center in Toledo. Anderson was outworking Martin and showed his power in round three when he landed a big overhand right, knocking down the former world champion.

Two rounds later Martin landed a huge left hand that rocked “The Real Big Baby” who had to come through the first adversity in his career. After navigating through a difficult fifth round, Anderson began to walk down his opponent putting his shots together, which saw him pick up the rounds required to win comfortably by unanimous decision. Two judges scored it 99-90 with the third judge scoring it 99-91.
