Jamel Herring Title Defense Headlines This Weekend
A twice delayed Jr. Lightweight World Title fight headlines this edition of the Big Fight Weekend podcast. This, as WBO 130 lb. World champ, Jamel Herring, will finally make the second defense of his championship after his bout with Covid-19 has delayed the fight for over the last 2 months.
We discuss this fight and all the boxing action this weekend, plus, the news of the week on the show:

Senior writer of BigFightWeekend.com, Marquis Johns, joins me, once again, on the show and we first go over the latest news. This includes, the proposed reschedule date for Unified World Heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua of England, battling IBF number one contender, Kubrat Pulev of Bulgaria.
That fight is now slated tentatively for December and is also apparently going to be in the same two week time frame as the Tyson Fury – Deontay Wilder third fight, which is more highly anticipated, especially in the U.S.
Ultimately the winners of those two Heavyweight clashes may end up fighting each other for the Undisputed Championship in the first part of 2021.
We also discuss the ongoing three way feud between the top draw in the sport, Mexican four division world champion, Canelo Alvarez, his promoter Oscar De La Hoya / Golden Boy Promotions and the DAZN streaming service. The three parties cannot get on the same page for Canelo’s next fight which was supposed to be happening this month, but may not happen at all in 2020.
Marquis and I discuss, further, whether DAZN is going to be able to remain in business, much less be able to play Canelo’s ridiculous guaranteed $30 + million per bout contract they signed him to fight for on their service in the future?
We then jump into the analysis and even some betting odds for the two biggest cards in America this weekend. The native New Yorker, Herring is up first as he defends against WBO top 10 fighter, Jonathan Oquendo, in the Las Vegas Bubble at the MGM Grand Conference Center.
This fight was originally supposed to have happened around July 4th weekend, but Herring tested positive in advance for Coronavirus delaying the fight the first time. Herring also tested positive on a retest several weeks later delaying the fight a second time, until now.
We discuss what the future could be for Herring, if he is victorious in the main event Saturday night to be televised by ESPN / ESPN+.
We also have Insight on the Premier Boxing Champions latest show coming Sunday night on Fox Sports. That features Cuban-born, Yordenis Ugas in a Welterweight contender battle with California’s, Abel Ramos in the main event.
Marty’s gives his Insight on whether you guys can get a rematch with Shawn Porter, whom he lost a 12-round decision to last year or maybe, get in the mix with fellow welterweight contender and former WBA World Champion, Keith Thurman, for an upcoming contender fight.
