Jack Catterall Next Fight: Eddie Hearn Talks World Title Shot and Opponents

At the Co-op Live Arena, Manchester on Saturday, October 26, Jack Catterall (30-1, 13 KOs) defeated Regis Prograis (29-3, 24 KOs) by unanimous decision in their super lightweight bout with the judges scorecards reading 117-108 and 116-109 x2. Catterall-Prograis was the headline fight of a Matchroom Boxing card shown globally on DAZN. Following the win for Catterall, attention quickly turned to what’s next for the Chorley native, and Eddie Hearn had his say immediately after the fight.

Eddie Hearn Discusses World Title Shot and Opponents

It was a fight that only came to life in round five with a knockdown, which was the catalyst for the Chorley native to dominate the second half of the fight as he knocked his American opponent down twice in an action-packed ninth round. The victory ensured “El Gato” won the vacant WBO international super lightweight title and seemingly moved closer to a world title shot.

Eddie Hearn spoke in the ring after the scorecards were read and discussed what could be next for Catterall: “We have Liam Paro fighting Richardson Hitchins, December 7 in Puerto Rico. The winner of that fight, we want to put that straight forward to them to fight Jack Catterall next,” said Hearn.

The chairman of Matchroom Sport added with his usual enthusiasm: “He should be number one with the WBO. I would love to bring Teofimo Lopez to Manchester and give him a good ar*e kicking!”

Future for Jack Catterall

Before his victory over Prograis, Catterall spoke to DAZN about who he would like to face next: “I don’t want to look too far into the future, but if had to pick [my next opponent] then it’d be Teofimo Lopez.”

“He has (the) WBO world title and out of all the champions in the division, that’d be the fight I’d love to have, but first and foremost, I’ve got a job to do and that’s to beat Prograis,” said “El Gato.”

Following his decisive victory over Prograis, Jack Catterall is now seemingly poised to get a richly deserved world title shot, and the Chorley native will be a huge problem to overcome for any current champion.
