Gervonta Davis vs Lamont Roach 2: Bellew’s Crucial Call for Tank

At the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on March 1, 2025, Gervonta Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) and Lamont Roach (25-1-2, 10 KOs) contested a highly controversial majority decision draw for the WBA lightweight crown held by “Tank.” Following the controversy of round nine, where Davis took a knee and subsequently took a time-out, which was unpunished by the referee, many have called for a rematch. Team Roach asked the New York State Athletic Commission to investigate and they ultimately decided to stand by the original result, to the dismay of many. Despite this, it now appears the rematch will be next for both fighters — and Tony Bellew has spoken to Card Player, predicting the outcome with one vital condition.

Gervonta Davis vs Lamont Roach 2: Tony Bellew Weighs In

Bellew Offers Crucial Insight Regarding Davis vs Roach 2

Davis was widely criticised after the fight, not only for the ninth-round, controversy, but for his overall performance. Looking ahead to the potential rematch, Bellew believes we will see an improved Gervonta Davis: “Tank does him. Tank figures it out. Tank’s one of the best thinking fighters in the world. He’s exceptional. He’s really good. But I think the thing with Tank is, he’s in his own head. And he lets the outside noise affect him.

“Whereas that boy just needs to focus on boxing, take himself away from the shit and just focus on fighting. Because he’s such a talented individual. Talented fighter. So he needs to keep that head down. Focus on his job,” said Bellew.

The event grossed a whopping $21 million in PPV revenue across U.S. platforms. Attendance hit 19,250—a Barclays record in its 13-year history—driving a gate of nearly $7 million, second only to a Rolling Stones concert.

A rematch promises intrigue after March’s controversy: Can Roach seize his missed shot, or will Tank roll stronger?
