Garcia still wants revenge for Thurman loss
Danny Garcia, in the welterweight division, is in the mix to take on the most prominent names Premier Boxing Champions has to offer in 2020. One name that Garcia hasn’t forgotten is one already faced in former unified world champion Keith Thurman.
Garcia still sees Thurman as a rival and, in an interview with Boxingseecne.com, hasn’t forgotten about the first fight they had.
“That’s just a fight that’s supposed to happen,” Garcia told BoxingScene.com. “Everyone has their rivalries. This is one of my rivals. I feel like I won the first fight. You know, it was a close split decision. But yeah, definitely, I’m ready to take on everybody.”

Back in March 2017, Garcia and Thurman faced off at the Barclays, and in a close one, Thurman defeated Garcia to at the time unify the 147 pound WBA and WBC titles by a split decision. The broadcast handled by CBS at the time was seen by a peak audience of 5,100,000 and drew an average viewership of 3,740,000.
The loss to Thurman is something Garcia would like to avenge if he got the opportunity.
“It would feel great to beat [Thurman],” Garcia said. “I never got over it [losing to Thurman], none of them. I hate it. I hate losing. I’ll never accept losing. I’ll accept it on paper, but in my heart, I never will.”
It may be a while before we get Garcia-Thurman 2 as Garcia himself is taking on Ivan Redkach at the end of this month in Barclays. While he expected to win that battle upcoming, Garcia will await a chance to take on Errol Spence Jr, as he recovers from an injury from his car accident. Another possible candidate is Garcia adding his name to challenge Manny Pacquiao after he wraps up his Senator duties in the Philippines. If one of those two doors isn’t available, a rematch with Thurman while he recovers from shoulder surgery would be interesting if it materializes.
