Floyd Schofield Overcomes Late Knockdown to Dominate René Téllez Girón
Floyd Schofield (18-0, 12 KOs) was knocked down late but dominated René Téllez Girón (20-4, 13 KOs).
Scores for the 12-round lightweight contest were 118-109 (x2) and 116-111. With the unanimous decision victory, Schofield remains unbeaten and continues his march towards a world title. It was his first fight scheduled for the 12-round distance and he will likely come away from it with a few valuable lessons learned.
Their fight headlined a Golden Boy Promotions card at The Theater at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas in NV, USA. Boxing fans around the world could catch the action live on DAZN. The Schofield-Girón main event was done in association with Davies Entertainment.

Fight Recap
The bout itself saw several fouls committed over 12 rounds. Schofield used his jab to control the pace of the contest and was often switching stances. Towards the end of round three, exchanges between the two saw Schofield get stunned. However, he remained on his feet and stuck to boxing rather than brawling in the fourth round.
As the fight progressed, Schofield only extended his lead over Girón. The young American alternated between strategic boxing and trading. In round eleven, Girón landed a left hook which, paired with balance issues, sent his opponent to the canvas. Schofield got up without any problems and fought the remainder of the bout aggressively. His work in the other 11 rounds more than made up for the knockdown, giving him the unanimous decision win.

Post-fight Interview
Floyd Schofield
“I feel good. It was my first time going 12 rounds, especially with a fighter that wasn’t going to back down,” said Schofield. “It was a shot to the back of the head. I kind of turned my head, so he took the shot. I just had to get up, I’m not going to quit.”
“They [Schofield’s corner] just wanted me to stay on my jab, stay on my bike, but, you know I want to give the fans an entertaining fight at the end of the day. And you know, just banging out if I got to bang it out. I knew he wasn’t gonnastand there and let me box the whole fight. You see he just kept coming forward after every shot that I threw. So I was like ‘you know what? Imma box smart but also give the fans a show.”
