Edgar Berlanga Sends Warning to Canelo Alvarez Ahead of September 14 Showdown
On Saturday, September 14, Pound-for-pound great Canelo Álvarez (61-2-2, 39 KOs) will take on the dangerous, undefeated Puerto Rican knockout artist Edgar Berlanga (22-0, 17 KOs) at the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas. Canelo Promotions will be promoting the event, which will broadcast live on PBC Pay-Per-View and PPV.com. Ahead of this Mexican Independence Day weekend extravaganza, Berlanga has revealed to Fight Hub TV he doesn’t believes Canelo has faced a puncher as dangerous as him.

Berlanga Explains His Power
The beginning of Berlanga’s career was littered with knockouts as he won his first 16 contests all by stoppage. The KOs have dried up since his first-round TKO win vs. Ulises Sierra in 2020, with the only knockout since coming in his most recent fight against Padraig McCrory in February.
Despite Canelo‘s experience, Berlanga is confident the Mexican has never faced a more devastating puncher than him: “A thousand percent.” He continued: “Bro, I knocked heavyweights out in sparring. Guys 230, 240, putting them out. From the four years being away from Mark [Farrait], my trainer you know when we split, I got away from that,” he added. “I lost the killer instinct.”
Berlanga also discussed the importance of having the right people in your camp to help you get in the right mindset: “I got felons on my team, ex felons, guys that did a lot of years in prison, so I got that mentality. In that ring, I’m a killer so that’s just what I bring.”
The Chosen One Talks Canelo
Canelo’s achievements in boxing cannot be doubted – but it appears “The Chosen One” is trying to humanise the Mexican legend: “You bleed like me, you breathe the same air I breathe, you walk on the same Earth that I walk on, he’s nothing different,” Berlanga insisted. “He’s not a robot from outer space. He’s a human. It’s the mental, it’s the mentality.”
Explaining his process to the Alvarez fight, Berlanga said: “I got to go out there and just do what I do. Do my thing and just turn up for the city and put my name in the history book like a legend.”
