Devin Haney vs. Joseph Diaz Jr. – December 4, 2021
Six months before fighting for undisputed status, Haney put his WBC title on the line against Joseph Diaz Jr. Haney was a big betting favorite going into the bout, and he proved the oddsmakers right. The speed advantage for Haney was simply too great for “JoJo” to handle. Diaz was out-skilled in the fight, but Haney was on his toes due to the aggressive nature of his opponent. Ultimately, this one went the distance, and Haney was awarded the unanimous decision victory.
Devin Haney vs. George Kambosos I – June 5, 2022
Haney’s chance for undisputed gold in the lightweight division came last spring. He challenged George Kambosos, who was coming off the biggest win of his career, defeating Teofimo Lopez via split decision back in 2021. Haney’s speed once again paid dividends, as he beat the Australian bruiser to the punch more often than not. Haney’s jab also disrupted the timing of Kambosos. After 12 rounds of action, Haney was awarded the unanimous decision victory and became the undisputed lightweight champion.
Devin Haney vs. George Kambosos II – October 16, 2022
Many argue that Haney was even more impressive in his rematch with Kambosos. The right hand of Haney found its target throughout the rematch. Kambosos once again lasted until the final bell, but the result remained the same. Haney walked out of his second bout with Kambosos with all of the major lightweight gold once again.
