Deontay Wilder Breaks Silence Demands Tyson Fury Honor Contract

On Saturday afternoon, former WBC Heavyweight Champion, Deontay Wilder, finally broke his silence regarding his proposed third fight this December with new champ, Tyson Fury, apparently in jeopardy of not happening. And, Wilder didn’t just stop with his displeasure at the fact that Fury doesn’t want to honor the rematch clause.

No, the former WBC belt holder from 2015 – 20 went further, including alleging for the first time himself publicly that Wilder was using some kind of weight in his right glove back in February to help score a seventh-round to TKO and hand Wilder his first professional defeat.

Wilder released a 2-minute video on social media detailing his displeasure with everything,

“What you don’t understand ‘Thief’ (referring to Fury). What you did is what my people deal with all the time- someone cheating them from providing greatness unto the world,” Wilder said.

Then, while video stills and slo-mos on screen of Fury and his gloves, Wilder continued,

“We saw in the first fight, where a ring handler was pulling down your glove to put your fist in an improper position. Ya’ll tried the same method the second time (in February)…. it’s impossible for a brand new 10 oz glove to bend, to keep a smushed in form, or to have loose space.

I highly believe you put something hard in your glove. Something the size and the shape of an egg weight. That the reason the side of my head and my face swelled up in an egg weight form. And, it left a dent in my face as well.

But in the midst of it all, you still couldn’t keep this king down.”

Later in the video, Wilder, now 42-1-1, 41 KOs, also took a shot at his now fired former trainer, U.S. Olympic Gold Medalist and former World Welterweight Champion, Mark Breland.

This after Breland threw in the towel against Wilder’s wishes in the 7th round of the bout. Referee Kenny Bayless saw the towel and stopped the fight seconds later awarding the victory to Fury.

“In the end, it took a ‘crap in the bucket’ referee and a disloyal trainer (Breland) throwing the towel in, just to stop me,” Wilder barked on the video.

Wilder initially defended Breland in the days after the loss, but earlier this month it was confirmed by his business manager Shelly Finkel that Breland would no longer train him moving forward.

This is also not the first time that the allegations about Fury having tampered with his gloves came to light. Wilder’s brother had alleged previously on social media and in other interviews that the Wilder camp believed he had been hit in the head with some kind of heavy object causing an indentation in the side of his skull. That indentation also reportedly showed up on Wilder’s post-fight X rays.

Meanwhile Fury and his co- promoters Bob Arum of Top Rank Boxing and Frank Warren of Queensberry Promotions in the UK both want him to fight on Saturday December 5th in England. And, they have apparently zeroed in on journeyman Heavyweight, Carlos Takam, to be Fury’s opponent.

Wilder still maintains that he wants the rematch however in his social media post he did not make clear whether he would be willing to have that fight in December?

Top Rank reportedly wanted the fight to be at the 70,000 seat Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on December 19th, but complications with ESPN and Fox Sports being able to televise the PPV arose with that date.

In addition to the video, Wilder tweeted this about the rematch clause:

It is believed that from the contract that Fury and Wilder agreed to prior to their second meeting that the rematch would have to take place before the end of calendar 2020. Or else, either side would be free to walk away and fight someone else.

Fury clearly wants to fight Unified Heavyweight Champion, Anthony Joshua, next year and has reportedly already agreed to a two fight deal with an automatic rematch clause.

As of early Saturday evening, there had been no response from Fury or anyone associated with his Camp about the allegation of him having used a weight in his glove to damage Wilder.

Stay tuned on that.
