De La Hoya Plea For Charlo-Munguia- “Need DAZN To Participate”
As we await the return Golden Boy’s Vergil Ortiz this week and Ryan Garcia next month, the biggest fight on the horizon for them is the potential WBC Middleweight Title showdown between unbeaten champ Jermall Charlo and top contender Jaime Munguia.
And the owner/head of the promotion, Hall of Famer Oscar De La Hoya, took to social media Sunday night to make the plea for all parties to agree and for the fight with their guy Munguia to happen,

“Jaime Munguia vs. Charlo. Look. Listen. We want the fight,” De La Hoya said in the video.
“Charlo’s the champion. He gets the bigger cut. We all know that. That’s common sense. Showtime, yes. You have the fight on Showtime pay per view. But, I need DAZN to participate. They built Jaime Munguia. That’s only fair. It’s business. More platforms. More pay per views. More money for the fighters. What’s wrong with that?”
As we have written, the negotiations for a Charlo-Munguia PPV bout have been ongoing for a Summer time date. However, Premier Boxing champions, specifically, has no interest in helping De La Hoya or Golden Boy. This is because De La Hoya and Bob Arum jointly sued them over PBC getting started back in 2015.
So, it’s an obvious road block, if De La Hoya/Munguia aren’t willing to relent and simply allow PBC and Showtime to show the bout.
As for the “in ring” aspects of this one, The 39-0 former WBO Jr. Middleweight Champ Munguia has been their number one contender for two years, but he is also the WBC’s #1 apparently wants to challenge Charlo for a more lucrative battle for Showtime and PBC.
Charlo is 32-0 and has defended the WBC belt four times and this would be most the biggest title challenge he’s had during his reign. That’s because the hard punching Mexican has registered 31 knockouts in his 39 pro victories, including stopping American D’Mitrius Ballard in three rounds last month.
Likewise, Charlo would be the biggest named opponent and threat that Munguia has fought.
Boxingscene.com’s Ketih Idec reported later on Friday that Showtime/PBC is looking at a date of Saturday night June 18th and likely in Charlo’s hometown of Houston, TX.
