Christy Martin Promotions card set for July 11th

Christy Martin Promotions reconfirmed in an exclusive to Big Fight Weekend that there card for July 11th is still taking place in St. Augustine, Florida. This card being official marks the first boxing fight card on any level taking place in the State of Florida since the pandemic that halted all action in March.

The fight card is still being worked on in terms of match ups but super bantamweight prospect Frency Fortunato Saya (8-0, 6 KOs) will be in action. The fight card will also feature Richie “Popeye the Sailor Man” Rivera (17-0, 12 KOs) in action as well.

From the promotions web page, the updated flyer is showing to catch these fights that it will be streamed via QC Broadcasting for $14.99 for the event. The link to sign up and purchased will be forthcomng at a later time. This price tag to see the contest is because it is more than likely that while the State of Florida has eased restrictions on public gatherings, the ones to allow a gate for sporting event doesn’t seem likely by July 11th.

The State of Florida was originally expected to have an influx of cards since it still allowed World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) to continue to tape shows the whole time. UFC earlier in the month took advantage of this by having three shows in a week in Jacksonville, Florida. It’s debated however if they followed all protocols and we may never known as Thomas Hauser in a piece for Boxingscene Sunday laid out how it all went down.

I was a recent guest on the “(un)Professional Boxing Podcast” with Boxrec Grey and we spoke about this card as it has been on Boxrec for quite a while. Check out that conversation here as we brainstorm how the cards may have to work for the time being until fans return.

Nonetheless, the UFC cards were the last combat sport cards that took place in Florida as the ones current ones on the docket are placeholder dates reported earlier that were scheduled before the pandemic.  This is a good sign is if this show goes off without a hitch, that many others can as well. Just at the club show level, expect it to be behind a paywall of some sorts.
