Benavidez KO Drew Prominent Social Media Praise

While it wasn’t for a world championship, it was still a significant fight Saturday night for unbeaten super middleweight top contender David Benavidez in Glendale, AZ. And, when he delivered his latest KO to become the WBC’s interim 168 lb. champ, there were plenty taking note online.

And, that included everyone from retired NFL football stars, prominent boxing trainers/broadcasters and more.

First, as we wrote in the recap mode, Benavidez completely overwhelmed former IBF middleweight champ David Lemieux inside of three rounds in the Showtime/Premier Boxing Champions main event. After dropping Lemieux with a barrage of punches in the second round, he eventually stopped him halfway through the third frame capturing his sixth straight KO or stoppage win,

Then, the praise began to roll in on social media for how dominant Benavidez looked Saturday. Like former Dallas Cowboys star wide receiver Dez Bryant, who liked what he saw,

It continued with longtime championship trainer turned broadcaster Teddy Atlas, who would know about fighters showing championship skills. And, he’s foretold what he thinks would happen if current WBC world middleweight champ Jermall Charlo were to move up to fight Benavidez in a potential future bout,

Meanwhile, Portland Trailblazers NBA all star guard (and big time boxing fan) Damian Lillard also took in the Saturday night Benavidez KO and now, has a match-making suggestion of his own,

A veteran broadcaster of over 25 years, T.J. has been a fight fan longer than that! He’s the host of the “Big Fight Weekend” podcast and will go “toe to toe” with anyone who thinks that Marvin Hagler beat Sugar Ray Leonard or that Tyson, Lennox Lewis or Deontay Wilder could have beaten Ali!
