Arum: Crawford likely to face Kavaliauskas in December
We now have an idea what side of the street WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford will be fighting on in the upcoming future.
Top Rank promoter Bob Arum was a recent guest on the latest episode of the Talkbox podcast and laid out the plans for the champ. In the interview, he stated that Crawford would be back in action on ESPN December 14th against Egidijus Kavaliauskas. Arum also said that it would start at 9 pm.m E.T. right after the yearly broadcast of the Heisman Trophy award presentation winner in college football.
The fight location he stated in the interview was Madison Square Garden in New York City.
“Hopefully we’ll have a title defense by Terence Crawford, Michael Conlan is scheduled to fight on that card, and if the hand comes around, and it’s in good shape, Carl Frampton will also be on that card,” Arum said in the interview to TalkBox. “So it’s a big night in MSG after the Heisman trophy is awarded.
If the WBO says that he has to fight a mandatory, then he’ll fight Kavaliaskuas. We’ll be meet ng with Paco Valcarcel, the president of the WBO, in London next week, and we’ll be able to work that out.”

Crawford is no stranger to fighting in Madison Square Garden as his most recent victory over Amir Khan back in April took place there. Crawford taking on Kavaliauskas seems to be the most likely as he is currently the WBO mandatory and has been since his draw against Ray Robinson earlier this year.
Boxing is going to have a busy night in the New York City region as rival promotion Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) will have a card at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. On that card, PBC has scheduled the rematch to what has been the Fight of the Year to many in Julian Williams against Jarrett Hurd.
We’ll see how this all plays out, but it’s looking like December 14th to round out the year will be a big night for boxing if not at least a busy one.
