Boxxer CEO Shalom has revealed the fight for Yarde-Buats is “very close.” He continued: “We’ve agreed terms, we’re ready to go, we’re just waiting for the other side, but I’m hopeful this will be resolved soon, and we can get it on.” He added: “Joshua Buatsi vs Anthony Yarde is a massive fight. It’s a big fight for British boxing and a big fight for the light-heavyweight division. It’s a fight fans have wanted to see for years and now is the time to make it.”

Yardes promoter Frank Warren has also expressed he hopes the fight between Yarde and Buatsi is next: “If everybody’s as good as their word it will happen.”

Both fighters have shown an eagerness to face each other, with Yarde’s trainer Tunde Ajayi recently speaking on the magnitude of a potential Yarde-Buatsi bout: “The one I feel the British fans want to see is a fight that has been in the making for over five years and one that would do a stadium,” he added. “I keep hearing O2 talk, but it’s a football stadium.”

Roadmap at Light Heavyweight

Buatsi recorded an impressive points victory over Dan Azeez on February 3, 2024, where he knocked his fellow Brit down twice. He is the number one ranked contender with the WBA and WBC, which was solidified following his victory over Azeez.

Yarde has undoubtedly mixed at a higher level, losing to Sergey Kovalev and Artur Beterbiev. Following the defeat to Beterbiev, Yarde has bounced back with two KO wins.

Warren addressed the situation at light heavyweight and why the Yarde-Buatsi fight makes sense: “Everybody wants it, says they want it and it’s a matter of agreeing the terms.” He continued: “The winner of that fight will become the mandatory to the title and the two guys, Beterbiev and Bivol, as you know are fighting on June 1 so they’re going to be out of action until at least November.”

“So it [Yarde-Buatsi] is a no-brainer. It’s a no-brainer and why wouldn’t it happen?”
