Who Are They, the Undefeated Champions? Top 5 Boxers With Zero Defeats
The world of boxing is surrounded by showmanship, controversy, and a lot of media coverage. Be that as it may, boxing is a dangerous sport – and one that usually puts most competitors out of the fray after a while. The most coveted box is the one where undefeated champions are challenged by underdogs.
We can think of quite a few names – Usyk, Fury, Joshua, and so on. They have all held undefeated status at one point or another. Some remain undefeated, indeed, but the truth is, that you are always going to have someone who can defeat you. In a way, boxing is like you play roulette for free – you take a shot and hope for the best.
Of course, knowledge and understanding of the game – or the sport – will help you win. But there are natural limitations. Today, we take a look at five undefeated boxers who have made history time and again. Let’s dive in.
Undefeated Boxers: Looking at the Elite
Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Truly, the real master of boxing is one and only – Floyd Mayweather Jr. He has been one of the most impressive boxers of all time, and you can put this down to anything – luck, good promotional strategies, careful selection of opponents, and so on. However, Mayweather Jr. has made history plain and simple. Here are some of the best fights of his career
- 2015 Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao
- 2007 Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Oscar De La Hoya
- 2013 Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Canelo Álvarez
- 2001 Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Diego Corrales
- 2007 Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Ricky Hatton
As you can see, anyone with a passing knowledge of boxing will soon realise that Mayweather took on some of the toughest boxers in his career. Yes, you could speculate about many boxing fights being fixed to give the reigning champion a chance, but then again – few people walk out into the ring to defeat Alvarez, Pacquiao and De La Hoya, let alone Hatton. All in all, he is a true legend.
Rocky Marciano
You could argue that Rocky Marciano is a true boxing champion. He rose to fame with his 49-0 record in the heavyweight category, and he has won with 43 KOs. As Roulette77, a media dedicated to roulette websites, says, true mastery takes time and consistency, and this is especially true for combat sports such as boxing.
Marciano dominated the world of boxing at a time when media coverage was sparser and when the sport was a little less centered on promoting champions in the way it does today. Marciano’s success story is definitely one that inspires and one that has inspired subsequent generations of fighters. His biggest fights included:
- Joe Walcott I (1952)
- Ezzard Charles I (1954)
- Archie Moore (1955)
Oleksandr Usyk
You may have just heard of Usyk, the fighter who dominated the headlines after his defeat of both Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury. The Ukrainian amateur fighter turned professional has hundreds of amateur-level fights, and this is one of the reasons why he has been able to secure great accolades.
Usyk’s fight with Fury was incredibly close, with Fury still underestimating his opponent until the very end. Yet he showed incredible resilience. All in all, the Ukrainian is so far undefeated as a professional boxer, and he might yet be defeated – by “The Gypsy King” in particular in a rematch, but even then, he is simply one of the most talented boxers there is.
Canelo Alvarez
Although we have promised to bring you the boxers who have not lost a single fight, we also maintain that boxers today compete in a very competitive arena with many talents to go around. Therefore, we must mention Canelo Alvarez. He holds two losses currently, but we want to mention him because he has competed across several weight divisions – something he set out to do himself.
Gaining weight and losing it has been a very stressful process in boxing, but Alvarez has taken it to a whole new level, training while having to calibrate his very body. As a result, he has 64 fights, two of which were lost and two of whichended up in a draw. He also has 60 wins, more than any boxer on this record.
Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford
If you want another modern boxer who has been undefeated so far, just look at Terence Crawford. As of 2024, he has an unblemished 41-0 record, and he is one of the most formidable boxers there is. He has taken on many great opponents, although admittedly – he mostly focuses on aspiring fighters, and this gives him a slight edge. Clearly a skilled fighter, “Bud” may yet make history as an undefeated fighter who will go down in the history of boxing as an unchallenged superstar.
