Teófimo López Talks Canelo’s Advice, Berlanga Prediction, and Gervonta Davis
On the eve of Canelo Álvarez (61-2-2, 39 KOs) vs. Edgar Berlanga (22-0, 17 KOs) at the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, on September 14, WBO super lightweight champion Teófimo López (21-1, 13 KOs) has revealed his prediction for the fight to Boxing News’ Andi Purewal. The world champion also spoke about the advice he gets from Canelo and that he is ready to face a big-name rival.

While signing autographs, “The Takeover” spoke to Boxing News about his relationship with Canelo and what advice he gets from the Mexican superstar: “Yeah, he gives me great advice overall. I’m grateful for just being able to just absorb knowledge from Canelo,” said López.

He continued: “The fact that he’s able to be open to it says a lot. I tried to have that knowledge with Floyd Mayweather and he denied me. It just shows what type of person who is where. It’s nothing against Floyd, he has a lot to go and do, so I ain’t going to talk bad about the dude, but this is what it’s all about. The next generation and supporting the next generation and pushing for the next wave that’s coming.”
The Brooklyn native was then asked how he sees the fight between Canelo vs. Edgar Berlanga playing out: “Canelo is very happy. A happy fighter is a dangerous fighter, and I think Canelo wins by knockout.”

Purewal then asked López the latest regarding his career, and the WBO super lightweight champion said: “Just staying in shape and getting ready for whoever they try to throw at me and just staying focussed.”
The Brooklyn native was asked if he would be prepared to face Gervonta “Tank” Davis in November or December: “Yeah, I’m ready now.”

He added: “It would be the biggest fight in boxing.”
Asked about Ryan Garcia’s call out of him, he simply said: “Another big fight.”
