Options for Joshua in 2024
Before “Day of Reckoning,” it was revealed by Dan Rafael that Joshua and Deontay Wilder had agreed to all terms on a two-fight deal. The agreement was contingent on AJ and Wilder not losing their bouts. Joseph Parker dominating Wilder has since scuppered that deal with Hearn saying: “The fights dead.”
He continued describing being in constant contact with His Excellency, and when talking about a potential fight between Joshua and Francis Ngannou, he described it as “Absolutely Colossal.” Other options mentioned by Hearn involved fighting the winner of Fury and Usyk or a potential fight with Filip Hrgović, who has spoken recently about his desire for a big fight next.
Heavyweight Division
Hearn also revealed that AJ wants to be in massive fights and desires to lift a heavyweight world title again. He was impressive in dominating Otto Wallin under the guidance of Ben Davison. If the winner of Fury vs. Usyk vacates the IBF belt, a world title shot against Hrgović looks the most likely for AJ. Joseph Parker, Hrgović, and Daniel Dubois were other notable winners from “Day of Reckoning” and are also dining at the top table in the heavyweight division.
2023 ended in a blaze of glory for boxing, and 2024 looks set to exceed those high standards already set.
