Lee blasts out Prieto to close out Shobox

Friday night aired the last boxing in the United States for a while on Showtime, as Brandun Lee administered “one-way traffic” to Camilo Prieto, stopping him in three rounds. This bout was the main event of the Shobox: The New Generation series that aired from the Grand Casino out of Hinkley, Minnesota.

What made this a unique show was due to the coronavirus and safety concerns; only “essential personnel” was allowed inside for the fight card.

Would not have needed much crowd participation as the contest proved that the Jr. Welterweight contender Lee (19-0, 17 KOs), who was an outstanding amateur and undefeated prospect, was too much for Prieto who was playing defense and self-defense for three rounds.

Prieto (15-3, 9 Kos) came into this one not only as a 33-year-old prospect but also making his debut on American soil in the ring as he fought primarily in the Dominican Republic. Early on in this fight, Prieto wasn’t showing much except he was a moving target to any shots thrown by Lee.

Referee Mark Nelson decided at 2:34 of the third round he had seen enough of Prieto doing nothing and waived this one over. Prieto didn’t land a punch in three rounds of this based on the broadcast stat box. To his credit, Lee kept him fighting his fight and didn’t have not only any time to get anything going for Prieto, but wasn’t providing much in return fire to keep Lee off him either.

While Lee outclassed Prieto in this contest, when I spoke to Lee, he mentioned that his goal was to get him out of the match early, and there was no question that he did just that with Prieto.

While to everyone watching at home and even on the broadcast hoped for competition for Lee, he showed that he is still a force in the ring, as he continues to climb up the ranks.
