Report- Wilder Fury rematch set for again for Vegas in July

Only eight days after their second fight ended with Tyson Fury upsetting Deontay Wilder and taking his WBC Heavyweight title, it appears the third fight for the two is already set for July in the same setting.

This according to ESPN boxing insider, Dan Rafael, who wrote Sunday evening that he got confirmation of the date and the location for the third fight:

Rafael wrote that the two sides: Wilder and Premier Boxing Champions and Fury and Top Rank Boxing had already contractually agreed before the second fight for the third fight to be either in Las Vegas, potentially in Los Angeles again or maybe, New York.

Wilder and Fury fought to a draw the first time at the Staples Center in downtown L.A. in December of 2018. Also, Wilder has defended his WBC belt frequently in the past at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

As Arum pointed out in Rafael story, having the fight in mid-July is ideal in terms of it not having very much competition in American professional sports is ideal,

“We realized that date was the favorite of both ESPN and Fox because it comes at a dead time in sports, which is good for the fight,” he said. “It’s after the basketball playoffs, baseball is in the middle of the season and there’s no football. It’s the ideal time. The hotel, MGM Grand, also believes it to be an ideal time.” 

Fury handed Wilder his first pro loss in his 11th title defense scoring a seventh round TKO. Since, Fury’s victory, Wilder has spent time making the excuse that his costume that he wore in the ring was too heavy and sapped his legs early in the fight. And, also on Thursday, Wilder, who questioned his trainer Mark Breland throwing in the towel to stop the fight in the seventh round, announced that Breland will remain as trainer with his team.

It has been widely reported that as part of the two fighters and the two promotions agreeing to the second and the third fight contractually at once, that the splitting up the pay-per-view broadcast between ESPN and Fox was also ironed out.

This means that for the third fight, Fox Sports will take the lead, be in charge of the production and primarily have their announcers on the call of the fight, just like ESPN did for last Saturday night’s showdown.
