Kownacki-Helenius in March- Breazeale reacts
Adam Kownacki, on March 7th at the Barclays Center in New York, will headline in heavyweight action against Robert Helenius on FOX. One of the many names that were reported was Dominic Breazeale, who many know last year as being on the wrong end of the 2019 knockout of the year against Deontay Wilder.
Keith Idec of Boxingscene.com reported last week that the heavyweight from Finland would get the nod to take on the undefeated Polish star in Brooklyn, instead of Breazeale.
Breazeale took the news of Kownacki facing Helenius instead of him about as well as you’d expect it.
“The look on @akbabyface (Kownacki) face when it comes to signing the contract to fight me,” Breazeale posted to his Instagram account with the picture of Howard from 1986’s movie Howard the Duck
“Now he wants to fight a washed-up dude (Helenius) instead of giving the fans a heavyweight slugfest and fighting me. Go ahead and pad your record and stay safe. At some point, you’ll have to fight. I’ll stay in the gym and will continue to look for the best fights for the fans. #TROUBLE”

While posting a bad movie from the 1980s on the gram isn’t going to get Breazeale the March 7th date, he does have a solid point of Kownacki seemingly from the outside looking in to pad his record with some less than stellar opponents. “The Nordic Nightmare” Helenius (29-3,18 KOs) was last seen in action in the United States last July, where Gerald Washington defeated him by eighth-round knockout at the Armory in Minneapolis.
Kownacki was a guest on the recent episode on the Ring Walk Jon Podcast. When host Jonathan Leir asked about the choice of who it was, Kownacki didn’t want to spill the beans and advised that the official announcement will come from Premier Boxing Champions next week.
On paper, Kownacki-Helenius isn’t going to get anyone to mark their calendar, but in full disclosure, neither did his last matchup against Chris Arreola in August. That, however, turning out to exceed all expectations and was a fun fight once it was all said and done that Kownacki won my majority decision.
While Helenius is by all signs expected to be it in March, let’s hope this will build-up a matchup against Breazeale sometime in this year.
