All results from the Dalton Smith vs Alberto Puello main fight card
Giorgio Visioli vs Maxi Hughes
Up next was Giorgio Visioli (12-0, 6 KOs) vs Maxi Hughes (29-10-2, 6 KOs) for the vacant WBC international silver lightweight title.
It was a cagey opening three minutes of the fight, with both having success with their jab. However, Hughes landed the best punch of the round near the bell with a left hand. The second round was another tight one. Visioli is clearly the sharper puncher, but Hughes would have been happy with his start.
Visioli began to find his range in the third round, finding a regular home for the left hand and showcasing impressive movement. The sharp shooting of Visioli again stood out in the fourth round, but Hughes did land an eye-catching left hand, reminding his opponent that he’s still in the fight.
Over the next couple of rounds, Visioli continued to control the action through his jab and showcased his sharp punching, with Hughes having limited success. Visioli continued to pick off Hughes, who was unable to land anything of note on the 23-year-old fighter from Aldershot. Hughes began to come forward in the eighth and had some success, including a left to the body. The Maxi Hughes pressure brought a cut above Visioli’s right eye, the result of an accurate left hand. Visioli stood on top and collected the WBC international silver lightweight title, with scorecards of 95-95 and 96-94 x2. I am not sure how the judges had the cards so close, but the right man got his hand raised, winning by majority decision. it wasn’t vintage Visioli, and as he moves through the ranks, he will need to be better than he was tonight!
Leo Atang vs Jonathan Vergara
Next up on the Dalton Smith vs Alberto Puello fight card was heavyweight rising star Leo Atang (9-0, 8 KOs) vs Jonathan Vergara (9-5, 5 KOs).
Atang started patiently, finding his distance, before he landed a well-placed right hand, knocking down his opponent. Atang refused to rush his work, controlling the distance impressively, before landing another big right hand, scoring the second knockdown. With just seconds left in the fight, the 19-year-old scored another knockdown and, despite making the count and the bell sounding, the referee deemed he was in no position to continue, awarding Atang the TKO win. Another impressive performance from the teenager, who will be back in action on the upcoming Matchroom card in Monaco on December 12.
Emma Dolan vs Shannon Ryan
On the first fight of the Dalton Smith vs Alberto Puello main card, it was Emma Dolan (9-2, 1 KO) vs Shannon Ryan (12-1, 3 KOs) with the British, Commonwealth and IBF intercontinental super flyweight titles on the line.
Shannon Ryan started like an express train, landing some heavy shots before a huge right hand knocked Dolan down. Despite making the count, she was clearly on heavy legs, and Ryan pounced and quickly scored another knockdown, with the referee waving the fight off. A stunning start to the card for Ryan as she gets revenge on Dolan and makes a point to the rest of the super flyweight division, as she adds the British title to her IBF intercontinental & Commonwealth titles.
