Both women spoke at a press conference ahead of their Aug. 29 contest. Below is some of what they had to say.

Mikaela Mayer vs. Chantelle Cameron press conference quotes

Mikaela Mayer

“I’m in that stage of my career where these are the only type of fights that I really want,” said Mayer. “I think Cameron feels the same way.”

“When I go in there this weekend, I’m going to start quick, start fast, start from round one, not let anything get away from me, and not leave it in the hands of the judges because you can’t always trust the judges.”

Chantelle Cameron

“I’m doing everything that’s been asked of me, and I think I’m in the prime actually,” said Cameron. “I think obviously I’ve had a few ups and downs, but I’m in a good place.”

“As long as I know that I’m winning my fights and I’m doing what I want to do and what I’m set out to do, everything else is just noise.”

Fight prediction

From Big Fight Weekend’s Ricky Carroll: Mayer has excellent fundamentals. She works her jab impressively behind it during her fights and is equally comfortable fighting in the pocket or at range. Watching her fight, we are always impressed by her variety and excellent combination punching. She has shown throughout her career that she can box or stand toe-to-toe and exchange.

Cameron brings the pressure when she fights and also punches at a high volume. She changes the levels effortlessly when she fights, and like Mayer, she shows huge determination whenever she fights.

Looking at the attributes of both, it’s difficult to see how this fight cannot catch fire. We are backing Mayer to win a close majority/split decision.
