Kell Brook gives his honest verdict on Ryan Garcia vs Conor Benn

On September 12 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV, Ryan Garcia vs Conor Benn will headline a co-promoted card between Zuffa Boxing and Golden Boy Promotions. Fight fans in the United Kingdom and Ireland will be able to catch the action live on DAZN, while the rest of the world can watch  the event on Paramount+. 

Garcia’s WBC welterweight world title, which he won earlier this year against Mario Barrios, will be on the line. As we edge closer to this explosive contest, former IBF welterweight world champion Kell Brook spoke on Fight Your Corner in partnership with Midnite, where he revealed who he’s leaning towards on September 12.

Garcia (25-2, 20 KOs) won the WBC crown last time out, dropping and dominating Mario Barrios. That marked a huge improvement from Garcia’s hugely disappointing loss to Rolly Romero. In the build-up to this bout, Garcia looks to be putting his well-documented outside-the-ring troubles behind him.

Benn (25-1, 14 KOs) shocked the boxing world by moving to Zuffa Boxing from Matchroom. His two clashes against Chris Eubank Jr were memorable, whereas his recent win over Regis Prograis can only be described as underwhelming.

Kell Brook weighs in on Ryan Garcia vs Conor Benn

Speaking on Fight Your Corner, Brook gave his view on Ryan Garcia vs Conor Benn:

“I think Conor has it all, he can fight. I’d have liked him to have got a British title first, but he is a PPV fighter. It’s a very exciting fight. Ryan can whack big time, and this is going to be a real test for Conor. He’s coming down to welterweight – this is more his weight, but it’s two serious characters who aren’t going to disappoint. 

“I give Conor a good chance, but I do lean towards Garcia – I just think he’ll rise to the occasion. I think Garcia has that get out of jail card. When I boxed Shaun Porter, I went to Vegas to finish some sparring, and I put it on to this kid, and after we got chatting, he said he’s never been hit as hard as Ryan Garcia. The punch power he’s got is just next level.”
