Vergil Ortiz Jr. and Golden Boy Promotions have “reached an amicable settlement resolving all outstanding disputes.”

The announcement was made via press release on Friday. Little detail was offered regarding the nature of the settlement with the press release claiming that the terms remain confidential. However, it maintains that all claims between the involved parties have been resolved.

Ortiz sued his promotional company earlier this year, citing breach of contract and interference with economic advantage. In March, Golden Boy Promotions’ motion for arbitration was granted by a judge, allowing the boxing promotion to compel arbitration in their legal battle against the American fighter. It also prevented Ortiz from negotiating or contracting with third parties for future fights. He will now be able to continue his boxing career with the settlement.

Golden Boy Promotions confirm settlement with Vergil Ortiz Jr.

“Our relationship with Vergil has spanned more than a decade, and we are proud to have played a role in his development into one of the sport’s premier fighters,” said Oscar De La Hoya, chairman and CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, in the press release. “We look forward to continuing our partnership and working together with Vergil Jr., Rick Mirigian [Ortiz’s manager], and the rest of Team Ortiz to deliver the biggest fights possible for boxing fans.”

“I’m very grateful that Golden Boy and I were able to come to an understanding and resolve everything,” said Ortiz in the same press release. “I’m excited to move forward and make the biggest fights happen, including the [Jaron] Ennis fight. My only focus is on delivering unforgettable fights for the fans, and I know my team and I will accomplish that together.”

What comes next?

Ortiz had his last bout in November last year against Erickson Lubin. De La Hoya claims that his company will continue to work with him to “deliver the biggest fights possible.” Ortiz campaigns at super welterweight and has set his sights on Ennis. Bozy Ennis, father and trainer of the unified world champion, claims that his son will not be facing the Texan next. What lies in store for Ortiz remains to be seen.
