Frank Warren provides update on Fabio Wardley

On May 9, at the Co-op Live Arena, Manchester, Fabio Wardley vs Daniel Dubois headlined a Queensberry Promotions fight card, live on DAZN. It ultimately exceeded all expectations, with action for the entire bout. Dubois won by eleventh-round TKO to become the new WBO heavyweight champion. Many thoughts were with Wardley and his health after the fight, and Queensberry founder Frank Warren has provided that update, speaking to talkSPORT.

Daniel Dubois beats Fabio Wardley on May 9

It was an entertaining undercard, with plenty to dissect, but the main event exceeded all expectations. Just seconds into the fight, Wardley (20-1-1, 19 KOs) landed a clubbing right hand, knocking Dubois (23-3, 22 KOs) down. Dubois recovered and began to move his feet more effectively, but was again knocked down in the third round.

After the second knockdown, Don Charles read Dubois the riot act in the corner, and Dynamite established his ramrod jab while moving his feet effectively. These two attributes enabled him to control the tempo and distance of the fight effectively.

Neither would retreat, but the heavier blows landed, came from Dubois. How Wardley remained on his feet was a mystery! The later rounds were mainly dominant for Dubois, and finally, in the eleventh, the referee waved the fight off, awarding Dubois the WBO heavyweight title and making him a two-time heavyweight champion.

Speaking to talkSPORT after the brutal war between Fabio Wardley and Daniel Dubois, Warren provided an update on the Ipswich man after losing his WBO title:

“He (Wardley) had quite a few stitches.

“He’s obviously down because he got beaten, but he gave a great account of himself.

“Now it is all about him spending time with his family and his new daughter.

“That’s what he will do, and when the time is right, we will see [what he does next],” said Warren.
