Title fights from around the world: Nina Meinke outclasses Dyana Vargas

Nina Meinke outclasses Dyana Vargas in world title defence

Nina Meinke (21-3, 4 KOs) was simply too much for Dyana Vargas (20-3-1, 13 KOs), winning a unanimous decision.

Scores for their bout were 120-108 and 119-109 (x2). Meinke remains the IBF featherweight world champion with the victory. She won the title in 2024 against Daniela Bermúdez. This was her second defence of the belt.

The clash took place on a March 20 Ringside Zone card at the Fischauktionshalle in Hamburg, Germany. Fight fans in Germany could catch the action live on Bild+. Ringside Zone have also uploaded the bout to their YouTube channel. Unlike several other world title fights featuring women, Meinke-Vargas was fought over 12 three-minute rounds.

Meinke was in full control of the distance in this bout. She was landing sharp counters as early as the opening round. Vargas’s nose was bloodied by the third. Meinke’s jab proved quite effective over 12 rounds. Vargas consistently got hit with it and struggled to close the distance as a result. She swung and missed on several punches, allowing Meinke to outbox her. Despite Vargas’s best efforts, it was clear that the reigning champion was the superior fighter. It came as no surprise that Meinke won a unanimous decision and retained her featherweight world title.
