Moses Itauma sustains injury in camp ahead of January 24 fight

Moses Itauma continues to be the talk of the heavyweight division, with many tipping him to become a world champion sooner rather than later. He was due to return to action on January 24 against the durable American Jermaine Franklin.

Queensberry Promotions has now announced that Itauma has sustained an injury in camp, leading to the postponement of the January 24 card.

Moses Itauma injury leads to new date confirmed

Itauma (13-0, 11 KOs) enjoyed a memorable 2025, defeating Mike Balogun and Dillian Whyte with relative ease. The highly regarded 21-year-old had been linked with facing the very best in the division, before it was announced he would face the tough American Jermaine Franklin, who has only lost twice, to Whyte and Anthony Joshua.

His movement and punching power have seen him walk through all other opponents with relative ease. Many have tipped Franklin to be the fighter to take Itauma into deep waters.

Franklin (24-2, 15 KOs) recorded the biggest win of his career last time out, defeating Ivan Dychko on the Canelo vs Crawford undercard. Many felt he deserved the win against Whyte as well.

The announcement from Queensberry read:

“Moses Itauma has sustained an injury in camp for his fight with Jermaine Franklin on 24th January. Due to this, the whole Magnificent 7 show has been postponed and moved to the new date of 28th March at the Co-op Live in Manchester.”

Attention now turns to March 28, where Itauma will aim to become the first fighter to stop Franklin.
