‘I’d love to be his therapist’ – George Groves on Jake Paul’s future
Jake Paul’s journey in boxing has received much criticism due to the opposition he chooses. However, on December 19, 2025, Paul faced former two-time unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua at the Kaseya Center in Miami.
The entire event was shown live on Netflix, with 33 million viewers around the world, tuning in to see Paul (12-2, 7 KOs) lose to Joshua (29-4, 26 KOs) by sixth-round KO. It was subsequently revealed that Paul had suffered a double broken jaw. Speaking to BetIdeas, Groves had his say on Jake Paul’s future.

After 15 months out of the ring, it was maybe no surprise that Joshua’s timing was off in the opening few rounds. Despite this, Paul showed no ambition to engage and ran for most of the fight. Unsurprisingly, he began to tire, and Joshua caught up with him.
The Brit scored two knockdowns in round five, and in the sixth, he landed a huge right hand, leaving Paul in no position to continue, and the referee waved the fight off, awarding Joshua the win.
George Groves gives honest opinion on Jake Paul’s future
Discussing Paul’s future, Groves had his say:
“I don’t think Jake Paul will [quit boxing now]. I think he’s still got something to prove. I think he should box a Conor McGregor type next. I think that makes sense. It’ll be another huge name who’s not a boxer. Who knows what goes on in Jake Paul’s mind.
“I’d love to be his therapist and get to the bottom of it, figure out what his issues are, what he’s running from, what he’s pretending to be and what his insecurities are, because he’s genuinely trying to convince everyone that he’s a professional boxer when he’s clearly not,” said Groves.
It remains to be seen what Paul will do next, but everything he’s said so far suggests he wants to continue fighting. He recently teased his return when speaking to DAZN:
“It’s all part of the sport, and it was an amazing night. I learnt a lot. Gained a lot of experience, and we’re moving on to more fights this year,” said Paul regarding the Joshua fight.
