Michael Hunter added to Ruiz-Joshua II card

Michael Hunter gets to be another heavyweight in action on the upcoming rematch card between Andy Ruiz Jr. and Anthony Joshua.

Hunter made word of it after his fight on the Devin Haney card where he outboxed Sergey Kuzmin for a majority decision victory. The next man up “The Bounty Hunter” wants is Alexander Povetkin

“I want (Alexander) Povetkin,” Hunter (18-1, 12KOs) bluntly declared, calling out the 2008 Olympic Gold medalist and former heavyweight title challenger shortly after last Friday’s one-sided win over previously unbeaten Sergey Kuzmin (15-1, 11KOs) in New York City. “If you see me Povetkin, I’m coming for you.”

Hunter taking on Povetkin on the Ruiz-Joshua II card, will take place in Saudi Arabia on December 7th and seen in the United States on the streaming service DAZN. Povetkin himself is coming off a landslide victory over Hughie Fury on the Lomachenko-Campbell card in what wasn’t the most thrilling to watch. Even at age 40, Povetkin for Hunter poses a fun matchup which will continue to test him as he makes his name in the division coming over from cruiserweight.

“That’s the fight I want to make in Saudi Arabia, Michael Hunter vs. Alexander Povetkin,” promoter Eddie Hearn told BoxingScene.com and other reporters following the show a Friday ago in NYC, referring to the Dec. 7 card in Riyadh, S.A. “It’s a good next fight for Hunter, who’s kind of like a miracle man. He goes in there sort of like a blown-up cruiserweight, because—let’s be honest—that’s really what he is.”

“He’s going in there beating up big guys,” Hearn continued. “He didn’t lose a round tonight against Sergey Kuzmin, who is supposed to be a Top 15 heavyweight. He made him look average. He’s undersized, but he’s got a big heart, and he really knows his way around a ring.”

Hunter is currently is in the bottom 15 tier of the heavyweight rankings. A victory over Povetkin not only will open up more eyes but keep him climbing up the charts of the WBA board.
