Both men spoke at a press conference ahead of their November 29 contest. Below is some of what they had to say.

Ben Whittaker vs. Benjamin Gavazi press conference quotes

Ben Whittaker

[Gavazi] is saying the things you’re supposed to say,” said Whittaker. “It’s all good and well saying it. Sitting there with your interviews. ‘Oh I don’t see nothing special.’ Come Saturday you’ll see how special I am.”

“Pressure’s in all walks of life. Everything you do, whatever job you do, there’s pressure. The pressure comes from myself if anything. Andy [Lee, trainer] knows, I’m a perfectionist. Everything I do, I try and do perfect. It’s going to be a perfect job Saturday.”

Benjamin Gavazi

“He is a big name,” said Gavazi. “I respect that and he do [a] lot in boxing. He was [a] good amateur and I watch his amateur fights, but in boxing [anything] can happen. AJ [Anthony Joshua] was a big name and when he [fought] against Andy Ruiz nobody [expected that he would lose]. In boxing everything can happen.”

“We have a game plan and I trained the stuff with my coach and I’m very focused and I don’t think about the stuff. How the fight’s going to be. I’m just ready to fight and I can’t wait for Saturday.”

Fight prediction

Is this really necessary? Whittaker stoppage in under five rounds.

The Brit has fought opponents like Gavazi before. He dominates these types of clashes. Expecting anything other than that would be foolish. Whittaker should win this easily and hopefully move on to more worthy opposition.
