Richard Riakporhe vs Tommy Welch

Richard Riakporhe (19-1, 15 KOs) was next up on the Chris Eubank vs Conor Benn 2 undercard, facing the unbeaten Tommy Welch (16-1, 9 KOs) in the heavyweight division.

A relatively quiet opening round saw Welch the busier of the two, looking to land a big right hand. After a bright start to the second round, Riakporhe landed a massive right hand, knocking down his opponent. Another huge right hand soon landed, knocking Welch down again. Following a third knockdown, the referee waved the fight off, awarding Riakporhe the second-round TKO win.

Sam Gilley vs Ishmael Davis

Next up in the super welterweight division was Sam Gilley (18-2-1, 9 KOs) against Ishmael Davis (15-3, 6 KOs) for the vacant British title and Gilley’s Commonwealth title.

It was a cagey opening round with Davis showing a slick defence while picking his punches well. Gilley was the aggressor in the first round. A bright start to the second round from Davis saw Gilley work well off his jab. Over the next couple of rounds, Gilley’s body shots began to land, with Davis having success in the fourth, with some smart combinations and movement.

The fifth round was a back-and-forth one, with both having success, Gilley with his body shots and Davis with his punch placement. The action continued in the sixth, with both bringing a phone box fight to life, throwing big shots in close quarters. Davis enjoyed a great ninth round, landing some telling body shots, with Gilley hurt, but he dug in well to fire back towards the end of the fight.

The eleventh round was huge for Gilley as he landed several eye-catching uppercuts, with Davis hurt. An excellent back-and-forth final round saw both have their moments, before Davis landed a right hand, flooring Gilley with the referee scoring it a slip, despite a punch landing. It was ultimately a great fight, with both fighters having their moments in many of the rounds. The judges’ scorecards read 115-114 and 115-113 x2, crowning Ishmael Davis the new British and Commonwealth super welterweight champion.

Mikie Tallon vs Fezan Shahid

The first fight of the Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn 2 fight saw Mikie Tallon (11-0, 2 KOs) face Fezan Shahid (4-3-2, 0 KOs) in the flyweight division.

It was a bright opening round, where Shahid looked to exchange, but Tallon’s body shots had an effect towards the end of the round, showing his impressive hand speed. In the second round, Shahid continued to throw with Tallon, but the Liverpudlian landed the much cleaner shots.

It was a strong round for Tallon in the fourth, where he put his shots together impressively, despite his opponent continuing to come forward. Tallon increased the tempo in the fifth, showing impressive variation and power, before a beautiful uppercut floored Shahid. Despite getting up on unsteady legs, the referee soon waved the fight off, awarding Tallon the TKO win.
