‘Fake News’ – Keith Thurman rips into Eddie Hearn over ‘Boots’ Ennis comments

On October 11 at the Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia, PA, Jaron Ennis (35-0, 31 KOs, 1 NC) delivered an explosive performance, stopping Uisma Lima (14-2, 10 KOs) in the first round.

Ennis showed the huge gap between the two fighters and announced himself in the super welterweight division. Keith Thurman, also in the same division, has spoken to Fight Hub TV, slamming Eddie Hearn’s comments that Thurman (31-1, 23 KOs) was offered the fight against Boots.

Beginning the fight in the orthodox stance, Ennis quickly switched and landed a vicious uppercut that rocked Lima.

Boots then followed up with three well-timed hooks that dropped Lima. The Angolan made it to his feet, but Ennis sensed the finish and landed a barrage of hooks, scoring a second knockdown.

Lima once again beat the count, but Ennis continued to land punch after punch, forcing referee Shawn Clark to step in and wave the fight off.

Keith Thurman rubbishes Eddie Hearn’s claims

Following Ennis’ explosive win over Uisma Lima, Eddie Hearn revealed that they had spoken to Keith Thurman about being the opponent for that fight. “One Time” did not hold back when speaking to Fight Hub TV:

“No, he didn’t. Stop lying. Eddie, stop lying, all right? Don’t be…come on now. Fake news.”

“This is America, baby. I’m gonna call you out like Trump. Fake news. Alert. Fake news, people. 100% fake,” said Thurman.

“I’m an easy guy to talk to. Talk to me. Make it happen. Talk to me. Don’t talk about me. We can get you the right people. Call Marcos (Villegas). Marcos got my number. Eddie, call Marcos. I ain’t gonna put it out there. He got my number. You can find me, pimp,” added Thurman.

The future for Keith Thurman and Jaron Ennis

Keith Thurman was set to return to action on October 25 against Sebastian Fundora, but Fundora suffered an injury, resulting in the entire Premier Boxing Champions card being postponed. It remains to be seen what is next for the 36-year-old.

Eddie Hearn recently spoke to Fight Hub TV and The Boxing Mob, and discussed the Boots Ennis vs Vergil Ortiz rumours:

“Just to make it clear on Vergil Ortiz. We sat in a room, me, Oscar De La Hoya, Eric Gomez, and the top DAZN execs in America.

“We talked about how a deal would work with those two fighters, and we agreed on a deal. We went away – we signed a new deal with Boots. Part of that deal, within the contract, was the deal that we agreed with Golden Boy and DAZN to fight Vergil Ortiz. Boots signed it.”

With Ennis moving up to 154 lbs, an already exciting division just got even more tantalising.

Revealing the latest to Fight Hub TV and The Boxing Mob, Hearn said:

“Now, we didn’t hear anything back. We told them, we’re gonna fight in October. They said they’re gonna fight in November. And we haven’t heard anything back. On Tuesday, Eric Gomez called me, and he said, look, I just wanted to let you know, we’re fighting Lubin.

“After that, we wanna get the Boots fight made. I said, ‘Well, we’re in.’ I take their word for it, and I truly believe Oscar De La Hoya wants to make great fights. But that fight is done on our side, on all the terms that we agreed with Golden Boy. That fight for me, although it doesn’t carry an official world championship, which is what we want at 54, is one of the best fights in boxing.”
