Eddie Hearn boldly names boxing’s best fighter – ‘I don’t give a f**k

On October 11 at the Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia, live on DAZN, Jaron Ennis blew away Uisma Lima in his first fight at super welterweight. It was the perfect performance from “Boots,” with many criticizing the level of opponent in the build-up. After this victory, his promoter, Eddie Hearn, spoke to The Stomping Ground and gave his fighter the highest praise.

Eddie Hearn praises Jaron Ennis after dominant debut at 154 pounds

Ennis (35-0, 31 KOs) started brightly on the front foot against Lima (14-2, 10 KOs), and with around two minutes left in the first round, “Boots” timed an uppercut to perfection. This shot rocked Lima, and Ennis pounced, landing three brutal hooks, dropping his opponent.

Although Lima beat the count, he was still on unsteady legs and was quickly knocked down again, following a barrage of hooks. The Angolan fighter made it to his feet once again, but Ennis quickly unleashed a barrage of punches, forcing referee Shawn Clark to step in and wave the fight off.

Hearn was at his promotional best as he waxed lyrical about Ennis:

“You can try and downplay it, but I don’t give a f**k, Jaron “Boots” Ennis is the best fighter in boxing today. I keep saying about Vergil (Ortiz). I respect those guys. I love Robert Garcia. The same thing will happen to Vergil Ortiz. It might take a few rounds longer, but he will absolutely slice him up.

“There’s no one in the 154-pound division that’s going to touch him. If you look at the finish and the combinations. The hand speed is blistering. The power is frightening. Lima was like, you know, and it was just…I just wanted a statement, and that was the statement of all statements.

“But we’ve got to prove it with the resume. He’s 28 years old. He’s 10 years younger than Terence Crawford. We haven’t even touched the surface yet. This is the most special fighter I’ve ever worked with by a mile, and we are just getting started, and I can’t wait for him to be in these fights,” said Hearn.

Eddie Hearn sends clear message to Golden Boy

“I can’t wait to duke it out with Oscar and Vergil Ortiz. Oscar tweeted and said: ‘Only 1 name at 154, Vergil Ortiz.’ Then make the fight if you truly believe you can beat Jaron Ennis, make the fight.

“You talk about Tom and Jerry. Talk about all this kind of stuff. He’s a defensive genius, but he will also come in and take you to pieces and knock you spark out,” said Eddie Hearn.

A fight between Ennis and Ortiz, even without a world title, is a mouth-watering prospect. Who wins?
