Title fights from around the world: Kim Clavel and Beatriz Ferreira edition

Today, boxing world title fights take place around the globe and are more accessible to watch than ever before. Sometimes, championship bouts do not receive as much attention and go underreported. Big Fight Weekend commits to writing about boxing news, previews and recaps. As such, the site now has a recurring segment on championship bouts from around the world from the past week.

The focus of these pieces will be on clashes ranging from atomweight to heavyweight that had the WBA, WBC, IBF, and/or WBO titles on the line. This week’s edition of “Title Fights From Around the World” consists of two recaps. In Canada, a new minimumweight world champion was crowned. Over in Brazil, a reigning lightweight titlist made another successful defence.

Sol Cudos vs. Kim Clavel fight recap

Kim Clavel (22-2, 3 KOs) is now a two-division world champion following her unanimous decision win over Sol Cudos (10-1-2, 3 KOs).

Scores for their bout were 99-91 (x2) and 98-92. With the victory, Clavel is now the IBF minimumweight world champion. She was previously a WBC light-flyweight titlist as well.

Cudos-Clavel headlined a September 27 Groupe Yvon Michel (GYM) card – done in association with Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) and in partnership with Boxlab promotions – at the Théâtre Saint-Denis in Montréal, Canada. Fight fans around the world could catch the action live on DAZN.

Despite the wide scorecards, Cudos fought a competitive fight. Many rounds were close with both women frantically throwing punches at each other. However, Clavel had the speed advantage which she used to land many combinations. The Canadian was cut close to the right eye in the fifth but did not let it impact the number of punches she threw. In spite of Cudos’s best efforts, she ultimately fell short against opponent.

Beatriz Ferreira vs. Maira Moneo fight recap

Beatriz Ferreira (8-0, 2 KOs) retained her world championship with a unanimous decision win against Maira Moneo (16-3, 3 KOs).

Scores for their bout were 98-92 (x2) and 96-94. Ferreira remains the IBF lightweight world champion with the victory. She won the title in April last year against Yanina del Carmen Lescano. This was her third defence of it.

The fight took place on a September 27 Spaten Fight Night card at ARCA Spaces in São Paulo, Brazil. Fight fans in the country could catch the action live on TV Globo.

Both women did not shy away from throwing hard, swinging shots at each other. While Ferreira was the more accurate of the two for the duration of the contest, Moneo enjoyed success in the third and fourth rounds. However, the reigning champion made the necessary adjustments and claimed a unanimous decision victory.
