The best NFL stadiums for marquee boxing

Wembley Stadium, in London, UK, may be the home of English football, but it has also been the venue for some huge fights. In 2014, British supermiddleweights George Groves and Carl Froch met there for their second clash, a unification bout.

British heavyweight Anthony Joshua and the Ukrainian Wladimir Klitschko fought there in 2017. Joshua returned to the stadium in 2018 against Alexander Povetkin and in 2024 against Daniel Dubois. “Gypsy King” Tyson Fury has also fought there, facing Dillian White in 2022.

The fact that Wembley has hosted so many battles should inspire other sports grounds to do the same because, having successfully welcomed one event, it’s now often considered for other clashes. The NFL, which has lots of stadiums because of the 32 teams that play in the league, is one organization that could consider hosting fights and, in some cases, has done so.

Below is a look at the best NFL stadiums for boxing and whether more are being considered.

Best NFL stadiums for boxing – SoFi Stadium

The SoFi Stadium, in Inglewood, California, is home to the LA Rams and the LA Chargers and is the largest stadium in the NFL. This domed, 3.1 million square-foot stadium has a seating capacity of around 70,000 but can expand to 100,000.

The LA Rams’ and Chargers’ home is the NFL’s first indoor-outdoor stadium and would be ideal for a big fight. The SoFi hosted Wrestlemania in 2023, will be a venue for eight 2026 World Cup matches, and, as well as being the opening ceremony venue for the 2028 Olympics and Paralympics, will be converted into the largest Olympic swimming venue in history.

Allegiant Stadium

The Allegiant Stadium, in Las Vegas, Nevada, is the home of the Las Vegas Raiders and has a capacity of 65,000; 95,000 square feet of field event space; and 75,000 square feet of video boards. It’s technologically advanced, climate-controlled, and hosts concerts and special sporting events. It was also the venue for the recent superfight between Terence Crawford and Canelo Alvarez, ensuring it belongs on our NFL stadiums for boxing list.

AT&T Stadium

The AT&T Stadium, in Arlington, Texas, is the Dallas Cowboys’ famous stadium. It boasts a retractable roof and a seating capacity of 80,000, which is expandable to up to 100,000 for standing capacity.

The stadium has already hosted some significant boxing events. In 2024, YouTuber Jake “Problem Child” Paul faced the “Baddest Man on the Planet” Mike Tyson. On the same card, in a long-awaited rematch, Katie Taylor fought Amanda Serrano in the co-main event as the undisputed super lightweight champion.

MetLife Stadium

In New York, Madison Square Garden is often the setting for big boxing clashes, but MetLife Stadium, home of the New York Jets and New York Giants, in East Rutherford, New Jersey, could also make a list for NFL stadiums for boxing.

The stadium has a capacity of 82,500 for football and 50,000 for concerts, and it has hosted events such as Wrestlemania 29 and Wrestlemania 35. It will also be a host stadium for the 2026 World Cup.

If you’re following the NFL, however, you may be more concerned about the Jets’ or Giants’ progress in the league, whether you’re interested in sports betting and the points spreads or just being a fan following their team’s road to the Super Bowl.

Unfortunately, the sportsbooks have little confidence in either the Giants’ or the Jets’ campaign for the Super Bowl and have placed both at +30000 on the moneylines. Aside from the venues mentioned, there are other stadiums that could host.

Other venues that could host

Although there is little talk of NFL stadiums holding boxing events, Allegiant Stadium will likely be the scene for further squared circle battles.

However, before Tyson vs Paul and Serrano vs Taylor, the venue had already been reserved for Tyson Fury’s third heavyweight clash with Deontay Wilder. Macau had been another option, as six casinos had been willing to put up money for the fight, and Australia had also been an alternative.

Fury and Wilder had already met twice in the US: first, in December 2018 at the Staples Center, in Los Angeles, California, where Wilder held onto his WBC heavyweight title in a controversial split decision draw; and in February 2020, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, in Paradise, Nevada, where Fury stopped Wilder in the seventh round and retained his heavyweight title.

Ultimately, the organizers settled for the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada. Reportedly, the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) had been ready to okay the Allegiant Stadium for the event. However, executive director Bob Bennet has been reported to have revealed that the venue was no longer in play. Although the reasons for the Allegiant coming off the table were unclear, the T-Mobile Arena has experience with boxing events, which may have played in its favor.

The AT&T, SoFi Stadium, Allegiant, and MetLife stadiums are all superb venues for marquee boxing, and indeed, some have already hosted some big clashes. The success of these NFL venues, not to mention soccer stadiums such as Wembley, could prompt other NFL stadiums for boxing events
