Hatton vs Khan: Groves Breaks it Down

Hatton and Khan enjoyed memorable careers that help ensure their legacy continues to survive the test of time. Khan won a silver medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics, before turning professional in 2005. His most impressive wins came against Andreas Kotelnik, Dmitry Salita, Paulie Malignaggi and most memorably Marcos Maidana.

Hatton went to 43-0, before losing to Floyd Mayweather. He will forever be remembered for his entertaining come-forward style and his unbelievable fanbase, which saw thousands follow Hatton around the world. His best wins came against Kostya Tszyu, Carlo Maussa and José Luis Castillo.

When asked about who would have won between Hatton and Khan, Groves listed the strengths of both: “Best for best, I can’t see Hatton getting beat. Amir Khan had lightning, fast hands, like ridiculously fast hands. Veryfast feet. But Ricky Hatton was like a little pro fighter from the get go. Amazingly brought on, developed and then when he finally broke through beating Kostya Tszyu, he was a real force.

Prediction

Groves also revealed who he believes would have won: “I think if those two fought, I think Hatton would be able to chop him down. Catch him and the vulnerability to Khan would always be a question mark, I’d go with Hatton. I think he could stop him.
