Their fight headlines a Top Rank card – done in association with Ohashi Promotion, Teiken Promotions, and Sampson Boxing – at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV. Fight fans in the United States can catch the action live on ESPN, ESPN+ and ESPN Deportes. Those in Japan can do so with Prime Video while TSN and Sky Sports will be the broadcasters in Canada and the United Kingdom respectively.

Ahead of their May 4 clash, both men spoke at a press conference. Below is some of what they had to say.

Naoya Inoue vs. Ramon Cardenas Press Conference Quotes

Naoya Inoue

“The last two times I was here in Vegas, it was during the pandemic, and I had to train accordingly,” said Inoue. “But this time I’m fighting at the T-Mobile, and that’s going to be the biggest difference.”

“I’m very motivated to fight in front of an American crowd in a big arena like this, but fighting on a Cinco de Mayo weekend, I feel like I’m fighting an away game. So I don’t know what to expect.”

Ramon Cardenas

“I remember the first 24/7, [Oscar] De La Hoya-[Floyd] Mayweather,” said Cardenas. “I remember watching them and I remember wanting to be here, fighting for a world title. I said it earlier. Fighting for a world title is one thing, but fighting for undisputed is more than I could ever ask for. It makes me hungrier. It makes me want it more.”

“More than anything, I know it’s going to be a tough fight. I know Inoue is one of the pound-for-pound greats. But I’m ready for that. I’m ready for the toughest fight of my career. I’ve been saying it all camp. Everybody ask me the same [thing]. ‘What do you picture?’ I picture a hard fight, but I also picture myself coming out there and doing my thing and showing the world who I am.”

Fight Prediction

Cardenas is a massive underdog going into fight night. Inoue is such a big favourite that his next bout has essentially already been made official. It is hard to see what Cardenas could do that would trouble the undisputed champion. Expect an Inoue win via stoppage within six rounds.
