Fanmio Takes Legal Action Against Garcia and Golden Boy
The Fanmio statement read: Today, FANMIO officially filed a lawsuit against boxer Ryan Garcia and Golden Boy Promotions for alleged fraudulent inducement, tortious interference, and other serious claims.
Per the lawsuit, Garcia had an exclusive agreement to fight Rukiya Anpo in an exhibition match in Japan this past New Year’s Eve. Despite receiving payment and the promotion being well underway, FANMIO was deceived into organizing an event in which Ryan never intended to participate.

In addition, Golden Boy Promotions actively worked to sabotage the event.
FANMIO felt confident that this event would be a big success. FANMIO’s actions reflected its confidence in the time and money invested in the promotion. Despite Ryan’s exclusivity to the event, he is set to fight on May 2nd in Times Square, disregarding his contractual obligations.
The justice system will take over, and FANMIO fully intends to recover damages. Doing bad business will never be tolerated.
Future Implications
The Famio deal with Garcia faced a possible legal challenge from Golden Boy, who made it clear they had not signed off on the deal for the exhibition fight to take place. The deal between “Kingry” and Golden Boy, according to De La Hoya ensured the 26-year-old Victorville native could not take part in any combat activity without the authorisation of his promoter.

It remains to be seen how this lawsuit could affect Garcia’s appearance on The Ring card on May 2 in Times Square. However, it appears Fanmio will not wilt with the last sentence of their statement reading “Doing bad business will never be tolerated.”
