The Desire Inside Him Burns Brighter Than Ever” – Eddie Hearn Talks New Signing

On January 22, Matchroom Boxing announced the signing of Liam Smith (33-4-1, 20 KOs), who returns to the company that previously promoted him. The experienced Liverpudlian fighter joined the following day after Omari Jones committed his future to Matchroom. Smith had his last three fights under the BOXXER banner but has now spoken – about his excitement about working under Eddie Hearn and Frank Smith again.

Smith has not fought, since being dominated and stopped by Chris Eubank Jr. in their rematch in September 2023. He was due to appear on the Anthony Joshua vs. Daniel Dubois undercard but withdrew due to illness.

No fight date has been announced for “Beefy” but it’s clear he’s happy to be back with Matchroom: “I have always had a great relationship with Matchroom, where they’ve promoted my brothers (Callum, Paul and Stephen) and, of course, myself a few years back. It’s great to re-sign with them and now we’re looking forward to some huge fights together in 2025.”

He added: “I’m buzzing to be working with Eddie and Frank (Smith) again.

Matchroom Sport chairman Eddie Hearn also had his say on the signing of Smith: “We’ve worked together before, and we’ve always had a great relationship,” Hearn said. “Liam certainly needs no introduction.
